Interventions for supporting parents of infants requiring neonatal inter‐hospital transport: A systematic review

Abstract Background Neonatal inter‐hospital transport is associated with heightened stress for parents whose needs may remain unmet around this time. Aim To identify interventions which are used to support infants require neonatal transport. Study Design A systematic literature review approach was used. Six online databases (CINAHL, EMBASE, EMCARE, Medline, PsycINFO, Web of Science) were searched up February 2022. The eligibility criteria included interventional studies published in the English language. Methodological quality assessed by Critical Appraisal Skills Programme checklists. Data extracted using a predefined framework and synthesized narratively because heterogeneity reported outcomes. Results total 671 articles screened, five meeting criteria. Three within studies: communication‐based intervention before represented 223 one study, Kangaroo Care during transport, carried out 136 three studies, video calls after evaluated study seven versus control group. effectiveness could not be reliably determined. nurses main providers all pre‐, peri‐, post‐transport. Conclusion Limited evidence mixed inconsistent outcome measurements available. Future research should focus on developing contemporary intervention, determining optimum timing its implementation, evaluating it robust design.
